Our approach to skills development in the specialist skills areas of interest has been to aim for portable blends of skills from computation, mathematics and applications domains. An overview is illustrated below:
Modelling and data analysis overlap. Smart sensing incorporates models through augmented intelligence. Models need to be updated after being subjected to testing with evidence. Conclusions drawn from a modelling project or a project supported by modelling, if adequately tested and shown to be reliable, form new sources of knowledge, information and data potentially able to be incorporated into future projects.
Sensing technologies under development also need to be updated after being subjected to testing with evidence, some of which may be based on models (e.g. models of optical or acoustic sensor operation).
